2007 Pride Celebrations

Hello and welcome to everyone who supports and celebrates Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride throughout our great state!

As Secretary of State, I manage the California Domestic Partners Registry, where more than 43,000 couples have filed their Declaration of Domestic Partnership in California. That Registry, when it was created, was a historic step forward - but the ultimate goal must be true equality.

I'm proud to stand with you in the continued fight for equal rights under the law as your Secretary of State, as I stood with you at every turn during my 14-year tenure in the Legislature on civil rights issues.

Pride events give us a chance to look back and recognize the phenomenal progress California has made toward acceptance, not just tolerance, and toward equality. We must also look toward the future with renewed confidence in achieving the goal of marriage equality in California.

Thank you for your continued dedication to civil rights, and best wishes for this year's Pride celebrations.
