Welcome
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Pride Celebrations

It is a pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all who have gathered for the 2008 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Celebrations.

2008 is an incredible time of political change in our nation and our state. There is no denying the sense of anticipation all around us as America looks ahead to electing a president, who will dramatically reshape the course of our nation.

I join with the LGBT community in seeking to transform our nation into a more progressive, more just, more compassionate and more open society; one that honors and respects every member of our American family. LGBT Americans have been and will continue to be at the forefront of the struggle for equal rights and social justice — for true equality will not exist until every person is free to love, cherish and marry the person of their dreams.

California became the Golden State because of the great diversity of our people. For California to remain the place ofgreat dreams and hopes and opportunity, the creativity, passion and vision of every person must be cultivated and permitted to flourish. The LGBT community is an integral part of California's beautiful mosaic and I proudly join you in celebration of achievements, accomplishments and hopes of the community.

I commend the organizers of this year's events for their diligence and work. Your commitment to achieving a truly equal and just society is an inspiration to us all. On behalf of the people of theState of California, I extend best wishes for this celebration of love, equality and pride.
