Each year, annual Pride celebrations pay tribute to the leaders and members of the LGBT community and its rich history and contributions in the fight for equality, justice, opportunity and fairness. I join you in honoring all Californians who have bravely fought to raise the awareness of LGBT issues and causes. Throughout my tenure both at the State Board of Equalization and in my current role as State Controller, I have stood shoulder to shoulder with members of the LGBT community in support of tax fairness for registered domestic partners and same sex married couples, marriage equality and equal rights. As California’s Chief Fiscal Officer, I have lead the effort to make state and local finances more transparent and accountable to the public as local governments and community based organizations across the state struggle to meet increased funding and service demands for critical programs and services. One of the programs I continue to fight for is California’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), the State’s lifesaving AIDS medications program for low-income patients. Earlier this year, I urged major drug manufacturers to reduce prices for HIV/AIDS medications for Californians and the ADAP. Rest assured, I will continue the fight against this deadly disease. With optimism and courage, the LGBT community continues to make advancements towards a future that is fair, just, inclusive and respects the rights of all. The LGBT community’s collective efforts inspire us all and remain a vibrant part of California’s success. I wish all involved in California’s Pride celebrations continued success in the years to come. Very truly yours, s/ John Chiang
