As members of the Consolidated Association of Prides, Inc. (CAPI), we are also members of the United States Association of Prides (USAP) and we are sharing the following update, from USAP, on how we can help each other. We are united in our movement and we are united in our priority of ensuring the health and well-being of each other, those dear to us and of our attendees as we deal with COVID-19.

We are here to support you and we encourage all CAPI members to support one another in the weeks and possibly months ahead and as this global outbreak recedes.

There are many resources available to you regarding planning and organizing mass gatherings during the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition to following guidance from your local and state officials, below are links to two guides from the World Health Organization and a Pride Organization Planning tool as references:

We can offer support to each other with an emphasis on reaching out to those Pride groups deeply affected with the challenges of event postponements or cancellations. During this time of uncertainty, we call on all member organizations who are in positions to lend a hand to reach out to those Pride organizations experiencing the stressful impact of this outbreak.

Please consider ways you and your organization can help navigate the future and provide support to an impacted Pride organization. Just imagine the financial impact your own organization might be facing if you were required to move your event dates or not hold your event this year. Together we can help each other. Together we will get through this crisis.

In addition to reaching out and offering emotional support, here are a few ways to help:

  • If your event is postponed or canceled, please reach out with other Pride organizations in your region to share best practices and do the best you can to not reschedule events for the same dates. The more we can help each other the better we all will be.

  • Reach out and offer to volunteer at the rescheduled event. If your organization has the financial means, offer to cover your costs to attend and volunteer. Be there to share your expertise or fill any needed volunteer role.

  • Participate in the rescheduled parade or be an exhibitor to show unity. Organize a contingent to represent your city to be in the parade.

  • Offer assistance now with the Pride committee's work. This could include visiting and helping in the office if there needs to be phone banking or other administrative work.

  • Consider buying ads or becoming a financial sponsor in the canceled Pride's new dates.

  • Maybe you have surplus supplies or inventory you can donate.

  • Offer to promote the rescheduled date on your social media, e-newsletters, and publications.

  • Panic, prejudice, “jokes” and misinformation might be seen online about another Pride organization. You can intervene by posting positive messages. Show support.

  • Publicly demonstrate solidarity.

We are sure you can think of other ways to be there and assist our fellow Pride organizers through this stressful time.

Our Pride events touch millions of people across the country. Our movement is strong and we must pull together; help those impacted and stay strong.

We are grateful for your support of CAPI and we are proud knowing we will all pull together and come out stronger and better.
